It is no secret that season 63 has been a tough one for the team. As younger riders are being positioned to take over for the older generation, there has been a drop in results.
Both the sprint and the classics team have been struggling so that Team Blitz now find itself relegated all the way to Division 6.
Rather than giving up, the riders have pulled together and are working harder than ever to improve and deliver results. Today, all that hard work paid off.
Patrick Bruggen and his supporters secured the first win of the season in Newquay - Newquay. The race has been a favorite of Bruggen's ever since he we took one of his first professional victories here as an up and coming youngster six seasons ago, making this the first repeat victory in any race for Team Blitz.
To top things off, Bruggen's lieutenant, Kobus Sligter, once again proved that even though he is nearing his prime and the day that he will definitively take over as leader of the classics team, he is not too old to improve.
In other news, Benjamin Dijken returned from a severe injury and is looking to get back into shape so that he can take over leadership of the sprint team and prove that they are up to the challenge of matching the classic team's recent victory.
EDIT: In a suprise twist, the sprint team pulled a win on the very same day. Veteran Ray Odia and the rest of the breakaway managed keep the peloton at bay through the flat course of Marken - Urk - Marken.
This is, by far, the most surprising win in Team Blitz's history.
